Case Study: UNC-Chapel Hill

Project: Online Student Voting

webslingerz worked with UNC-CH Student Government and Administrative Information Services to develop and launch an application allowing the Student Election Board to create online ballots and conduct their elections via the Web.

During an election, students access the university's Student Central website and are presented with a customized ballot based upon their student classification. Results are tabulated in real-time, and the election board can watch the incoming results using a customized reporting interface.

"The online voting application dramatically reduced the amount of time and effort involved in administering an election to 24,000 eligible voters," said Jeremy Tuchmayer, former Chairman of the Board of Elections. "This system resulted in a significant increase in voter turnout. More importantly, the number of voters did not decrease drastically from the general election to the run-off election as had been the case in past years."
